In this introductory lecture to the 24-episode course, The Great Tours: A Guided Tour of Ancient Egypt, Professor Melinda Hartwig, Curator of ancient Egyptian, Nubian, and Near Eastern art at the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University, follows the course of the Nile, exploring how this great river informed many aspects of ancient Egyptian culture. Entitled “Exploring the Gift of the Nile,” this foundational lecture touches on Egyptian religion and ritual, the pantheon of Egyptian gods and goddesses, the role of the king, and the fascinating symbolism of Egyptian architecture and art.
